Keeping Silence: A Series on Holy Awe and Anticipation

"…the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him.” - Habakkuk 2:20

Our world is often noisy and chaotic. This season does not always lend itself to quiet reflection. We may need a little silence. Not just as a break from the noise, but as an opportunity for awe. In the noise, we might lose sight of the enormity and wonder of what we are celebrating – the presence of God. The God who created the universe, the Lord of all things, has come near to us. This year, we will meditate on “Keeping Silence” based on the words of an ancient and yet familiar hymn. This hymn, rich in scriptural motifs and images, invites us to an encounter with the living God as He comes to us in Christ. God is indeed in heaven, but he has also come to us in Christ and continues to come to us in his means of grace. As we prepare our hearts to celebrate the coming of Christ and for his coming again, may we ponder the heavenly reality of our faith.
