“But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?”
~ 1 John 3:17
The Outreach Team at Family of Christ is staying active and keeping busy doing a variety of projects! Thank you for serving alongside our ministry and sharing God's love with our community.
Current Outreach Projects
Serving And Loving Teachers (SALT) Ministry - This ongoing ministry is well on its way, providing support and classroom help to CDC teachers every Thursday. We are still looking for a few volunteers! Please reach out to Julie Curtiss -
to learn more about how you can get involved.
Gifts from the Heart: Linda Thede is calling all crafters to a ministry that serves both those in our broad community as well as those within our church community throughout the year! Make and give a wide range of gifts. Do you enjoy sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking, cooking, sending greeting cards? Do you have fabric or yarn to donate? Be involved as much as you desire and/or are able. For details on how you can help, please reach out to Linda Thede - or 719.659.7342.
Senior Notecard Project – We will be writing Thanksgiving cards for the residents of Bethesda and Jackson Creek Senior Living Centers in October! Please reach out to Marlene Schulze - or Zeda Thomas - to participate in this wonderful ministry.
Cases of Love - On Sunday, November 7, we will be collecting new and gently used suitcases, duffel bags and backpacks, along with new pajamas for foster kids of all ages and sizes. Thank you for your support!
Great Cookie Giveaway – On Sunday, November 14, you can sign up to provide cookies for Family of Christ and Child Development Center staff members!
Thank You for Putting Your Faith in Action!
Blood Drive - A HUGE thanks to all who participated in the Vitalant Blood Drive on October 11. Vitalant was very pleased with our participation, which included 21 donors and 24 units of lifesaving blood for our community. We hope to repeat this quarterly. Special thanks to Marlene Schulze for organizing this very important event!
Law Enforcement Appreciation Outreach - All who participated in the Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Outreach Experience, which resulted in 500 bags filled with snacks and notes delivered to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department! Thanks to Marlene Schulze for organizing and leading this experience and Wanda & Harry Moore for using their Thrivent Action Card to help pay for supplies.
Socktober Drive - All who contributed to October’s Socktober Drive for Life Network, Cases of Love, and the Pueblo VA nursing home. Special thanks to Wanda Moore for bringing this idea to the Outreach Group and to Dan Swiatkiewicz for using his Thrivent Action Card for socks.
Snack Pack Drive - Julie Curtiss and NancyJo Houk for providing all the snacks for the first Outreach Experience. Hundreds of weekend snack packs were packed by our church family and delivered to Tri-Lakes Cares for all the kiddos in District 38 who receive reduced or free lunches. We’re ever grateful for Michael Kaye who is always available for delivery duty!
Halloween Bags - All who helped fill 210 Halloween bags to be delivered to Bethesda, Jackson Creek Senior Living, and the Pueblo VA nursing home.
Gifts from the Heart - Linda Thede for making blankets for the Pueblo VA and baby gifts for FOC new babies!
Fall Festival! - And finally, to all who helped create our most successful Fall Festival yet! Heartfelt thanks to the 43 families/people who hosted a trunk, the many people who helped set up and/or tear down, those who helped decorate, brought candy, bagged candy, and drove a tractor. Depending on who you ask, we hosted somewhere between 500-600 people, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive! Very special thanks to Julie Curtiss for leading us in recruiting trunk participants and volunteers, setting up the parking lot, decorating the outside of the building, for sorting and bagging thousands of pieces of candy, and so much more!
We can’t wait to do it all again next fall!
